slower bite but still catching fish

Now that my salmon tournament season is over here is the recap of the Big Pond Brawl Series. The first tournament was quite the grind and we finished in 11th place. The second stop was nothing short of lights out fishing with a 4th place finish. The third stop was a grind with wicked currents to fight but we ended up in 12 plus big fish. The fourth and final stop was called early due to high winds. We ended up going 4 for 5 between jigging and bobbers which landed us in 6th place and just enough points (best 3 scores) to secure the small boat series win. Big congratulations to Jim Muller and the Stormtrooper crew for winning three stops and posting a perfect 300 score and taking the main series title. I would also like to thank everyone who came out and fished with me; Nate, Josh, Tim, Brogun, and Bob. Along with that a big thank you to my girlfriend Tina for putting up with all the early mornings. Tournament Talk. Fished the third leg of the Big Pond Brawl series this morning. The original plan was to run 23mi up to Milwaukee but after getting out of the harbor, that plan changed in a quick hurry. I decided to start where I was Tuesday morning in 60fow out of Racine. It wasn’t for the lack of marking fish but none wanted to cooperate for the first hour in a half. After working north Nate, Bob and I started picking away at them. Bite numbers were good but landing average was not. We had well over a dozen bites and landed 6 of them with one being the biggest king of the season tipping the scales at 24.78lbs that cracked a wire diver with a flasher fly, which Bob did an excellent job reeling in. Thank goodness for the double extension on my @fishusa salmon net as the fly pulled as it hit the net. It was truly sickening the amount of 10+lb kings we missed. Just 3 would have secured a win. But out of 5 fish we had 58lbs which put us in 13 or 14th place. The big one was good enough to secure big fish of the tournament. If my calculations are right, Walter has nudged me into second place for the small boat series 258 to 252. Had a fantastic day yesterday for leg two of @lakemichiganangler Big Pond Brawl. Nate, Brogun and I started off where I ended pre fishing seeing the waves stopped any idea I had to run to Milwaukee. It only took two rods in to connect with a 5lb king. In the next 45mins we ended up going 5-5 on kings ranging from 3 to 8lbs. After that bite died off we yanked rods and ran to the lake trout grounds where it only took 2mins after setting the first rigger to connect with a 12lb trout. We then proceeded to lay waste to twin 12.8lbers, twin 11’s, twin 10’s and shook twin 8’s off behind the boat. After hitting our tournament limit of lakers, we put a king spread again. At 12:05 a hot 12.5lb king smoked my 10cl leadcore. After clearing all the rods and watching the clock, I put the boat in reverse and chased it down knowing we would be cutting it close to being back in. Once in the net it was off to the races back to the harbor. We finished 4th place with 54lbs and got some excellent series points. Now time for trips and gear up for Salmon a Rama.
