I book a reef fishing but unfortunately the weather forecast was not good. Captain Luis called me to warned me a we agree to see what was the best on the day of the trip, either reef or inland fishing. On the day of the trip, we first catched fish in the bay after seeing birds hunting. We then tried tarpons inland. We saw a lot of them, but they were not in the mood for eating. We finally went to try some reef fishing and catched yellow tail and red snapper. Captain Luis knows his job and the place and adapts to fishes that are sometime not hungry. I will definitely go for another trip with him next time I’m in San Juan

Capt took us through the bay to the canals in search of tarpon. We anchored near the mangroves and could see the swirling near the boat teasing us. We finally hooked into a smaller one, about 2 feet in length. My son had a blast reeling him in. We hung around a bit longer and hooked into a monster! Once it took the bait the reel started screaming as it took line. My son was struggled for a good fifteen minutes before landing it along side the boat with the Captain’s help. It was close to 4 foot long and Capt estimated it weighed between 50-60 lbs as he had 2 hands on it mouth lifting it up along side the boat! So much fun!!

When you book a trip, there are things the crew can control - the weather is not one of them.  We both independently checked weather reports and the wind was not supposed to be a factor - unfortunately it was.  This resulted in a longer ride out to rough waters where we were prepared to go “popping” for pelagics.  We were forced to go closer to shore for trolling.  Even this was a little difficult with the winds and no boats were catching fish.  That didn’t stop Luis and his mate Danny from working their tails off, putting multiple lines in the water for us, and eventually getting us a beautiful Mahi which resulted in some fresh sashimi prepared by the mate on shore, lunch prepared at the restaurant at the marina, and an additional few portions to bring home in our cooler. 

I’d recommend this boat for 2 anglers looking to have a fun time in San Juan.  First off, you’re in the harbor which is just beautiful and you get the seaside view of del Morro which is priceless.  Then the experience of bringing in fish in these beautiful waters was something I won’t soon forget.

I initially booked an off shore trip for my son’s birthday. The wind was high the whole week of our trip, making off shore unsafe, but Luis kept in contact with me and gave me a heads-up a few days before. We wanted to keep our booking and change it to in-shore due to the weather. It was still high winds but Luis really worked hard at making it the best experience and value. My kids loved him and they have amazing memories and first-time experience. Great communication, flexible options, easy to work with, hard worker, great value.

Capt. Luis and his first mate are fishy dudes, rough seas but constantly scanning the horizon for bird and fish activity, constantly pulling lines in and out to get the proper baits and presentations out there, and ultimately got us on a couple nice tuna and mahi mahi. Definitely know you’re in for a sea leg fitting if you go offshore but worth it!
