Well it's been a crazy 2 weeks. Things have blown wide open on almost all things fishing! Boston: We have seen several new waves of fish in the area. Huge numbers of aggressive 20-25 inch schoolie bass. Can be found almost every morning feeding happily, on the surface just about any place in the harbor. These fish have been hitting Both topwater and soft plastic lures and are great fun on fly. But the big news is the push of 30 to upper 40 inch fish that have just arrived. These fish are responding very well to both live and artificial baits. Some mornings they can be found feeding heavily on top in open water, other days they have been shallow on structure. All things considered its these fish are just the shot in the arm Boston needed! Cape Cod: Well almost all species are chewing heavily. Black seabass has been the best I have seen in years. We have imposed a 20 inch , male only minimum on the boat. This keeps both breeding stock in the water as well as making for better table fair. We have even had a good number of keeper fluke and tautog in the mix. The striped bass fishing around the islands is excellent! Though not huge in size these 20-30 inch that have been holding in the rips are a blast on fly! If you want larger quarry then Cape Cod bay is the place to be. The large amounts of sea herring has been fueling surface feeds though out the cc bay area. Large white hogys and top water plugs have been working well here. Cape Cod: With the hoards of boats descending on Buzzards Bay for Black Seabass, I decided to focus on Vineyard and Nantucket sound this week. Most of the rips are holding solid striper action! These fish are still larger schoolies 20-27 inches. The guys live-lining scup are picking up low 30-inch keepers. I prefer to have fun with the schoolies on light tackle soft plastics and top water plugs. Pink and white colors seem to be producing the best. Almost all the wrecks, shoals, and rock piles are holding bruiser black seabass. It's been the best seabass fishing I have seen in years! We have seen huge numbers of large males and have bumped up our presentations to specifically target them. The 9-inch Hogy pro tail eel in 5oz has been the weapon of choice! Both pink and sand eel are crushing it! The most promising part of the week was the appearance of 5-8lb bluefish on the south side. I checked several known bluefish haunts and all were holding fish on certain portions of the tide. These guys are reacting well to rebel jumping minnows and pink epoxy jigs. Boston Harbor: The flounder bite is off the charts. Big numbers and larger fish up to 18 inches have invaded the harbor. The outgoing tide is key, so time your outings around it and chum, chum, chum. Huge numbers of schoolies are running rampant over most of the inner harbor. Look for the birds and small bait to find them. Consider using single hook soft plastics and inline hooks on your plugs. Taking care of these fish is of the utmost importance. These fish are the future 50-pounders of the fishery! Some better striped bass are being caught very inconcistantly. Large top water plugs and live macks have been the choice when targeting keeper line siders. If you put in your time you will find them! The bulk of the larger fish are still on the move south of the state line. They seem to be delayed due to the large amounts of bunker down south. We will have huge tides on the 5th and 6th of June. It was an action-packed week here at Get Tight Sport Fishing. We put the hours on the water and it showed! I split up this week fishing between Cape Cod and Boston Harbor. The weather has been a major dampener this week. The fact is, it's tough to fish in 20-30mph winds, and 40+ is just too unsafe to get out. So, we picked our shots and only fished 5 out of the last 7 days. Cape Cod is holding good numbers of tasty black seabass and these guys have been everywhere. We even had some big tautog while seabass fishing. Hogy 100gram sandeel jigs, tipped with fresh vineyard sound squid have been doing the damage. This is a fun way to fish over the conventional high low bait rig. The beginning of the week saw most of our striped bass come from high current structure areas. Focusing on rip lines has been key. The bass seemed to grow as the week went on. We now have fish in the mid to high 30-inch range moving into Cape waters. Boston harbor is awash in 15-25 inch schoolies feeding heavily on the surface. They have been keyed in on small bait. The new 1oz hogy protail in bone seems to trigger instant bites. Both Tomo's tackle and Monahan's Marine are stocking these great new baits. The flounder fishing is the best I have seen in years with 4 man limits in under 3 hours yesterday. Some of these have been brusers! The trick has been to anchor on the outgoing tide and chum heavily. I find Fishing Finatics in Everett has not only the freshest bait around but his chum logs have been my weapon of choice! Don't be cheap; if your going to do it right, you need 2-3 chum logs and a flat of sea worms. The crabs and skates have been brutal, but once the black backs move in it's been lock and load! Spring has sprung, the fishing and weather are better by the day! They huge schools of smaller bass have pushed through the canal and are settling in all over the state. Larger class fish in the low 30" range are starting to show up in the mix and will arrive in numbers very soon. The larger baits have also showed up this week LG herring, bunker and mackerel. Are all present now in cape cod waters. Top water spooks as well as 10inch hogy double wides are putting a hurting on the fish. We also targeted some giant scup this week, frying pan size! These provide great table fare and action. They are a great alternative to keeping striped bass! While targeting the scup we saw large numbers of black sea bass as well. Black sea bass season opens on May 19th, these guys are by far the tastiest fish in our waters! So we have plenty of things to look forward to in the coming weeks! Tight Lines! Captain Brian Coombs

Well the 2019 fishing season has officially kicked off and I'm stoked. We have crazy good fishing right now and so many options to choose from. Flounder are now active in Boston Harbor and are pounding baits better by the day! Tasty Squid have arrived in droves to the south side of the cape and are offering fast and furious action. Dinner plate scup are also making a showing in upper buzzards bay in good numbers. But the biggest news on the agenda is the return of our beloved Striped Bass. Huge numbers of sea liced laden schoolies have returned to cape cod waters. As always this time of year they are feeding heavily on the surface. These fish are prime targets for flies, top water plugs & soft plastics. Most fish are ranging from 20-25 inches but as always this time of year. The weekend is over and I'm beat! Here is a quick recap of the carnage that occurred: Friday I had the opportunity to host Evan from Yeti Coolers, Joe from Why Knot Fishing, and Pat and Anthony from the On The Water Magazine crew. I had promised an epic trip on The Cape and I never come short on promises! With fish on the move I wanted to cover some ground to maximize potential, so I topped off the fuel tanks for a 200 mile run. The plan was to quickly check Buzzards Bay and ...then cut through the Canal and head north. We launched out of upper Buzzards Bay around 5 AM, the temperature was a brisk 50 degrees. We didn't see much life so we started working structure points with Hogy soft plastics. After picking up a half dozen schoolies I made the call to run north. After a quick cut through the ditch we ran into Cape Cod Bay. Spring fishing in the bay is a lot like run and gun tuna fishing - open water, big fish, and big feeds. I immediately ran 2-3 miles offshore and headed east on the 40-50 foot line. With the radar tuned into birds, I started to run zig zag patterns in a east direction, this covers a large area more effectively. After a 20 minute run, we found our first pile of birds. It was a pure bloodbath with 15-40lb bass blowing herring out of the water. We immediately tripled up. This went on for 3 hours, fish after fish fell victim to the white 3oz Hogy pro tails. We also had several beautiful fish on fly, including Joe's personal best at 30lbs. This frenzy lasted a while before dying off, so we ran again and found several other epic feeds. We spent the rest of the day throwing poppers and watching wolf packs of fish chase them in gin clear water. We got sick footage! We covered over 100 miles and boated 150+ fish. Unfortunately, I had to reschedule the next morning's trip due to inclement weather, but spent it doing recon on The Cape. Then Sunday was an exact repeat of Friday's trip, only we launched from a closer location. I had out Steve, Adam, Joe, and Nina. Joe had never caught a bass over thirty pounds, and I assured him we could make it happen, and so it did, twice on this trip! Nina had never caught a striped bass. We started her addiction out with a little top water action. Steve also caught his personal best with a fish over 40lbs. The feeds didn't last as long and were more sporadic due to heavy boat traffic, but at the end of the day every one had smiles on after boating 60+ fish!
