I book a spur of the moment trip for my dad and my two sons. After doing some googling and reading reviews, I decided to book with Bayou Obsession Charters. The four of us had a great day fishing in Jean Lafitte. Captain Glenn was an awesome guide. He was honest about the impact that the not so great weather could have on our catch, but did a great job moving us a round the bays and finding some hot spots. Despite the weather, we still managed to catch fish and had a great time doing so. Captain Glenn is very personable and knowledgeable of the area and that made for a really nice experience. We will definitely book with Captain Glenn again.

Then Captain Matt is your guy! We were 30 mins early just to be sure we knew where to be. Capt Matt was ready to go fishing. We started out doing pretty well...there was a consistent bite and we quickly had a couple nice Black Drum in the box and had thrown back a couple Reds in the 16"-17" range. Those 15"-17.99" Reds that used to be legal are no longer so in 2025. Louisiana changed the law to 18"-27" and four total per angler. But, it meant we were still fishing for Reds after catching well over twenty in the 15"-17.5" range. Then, the wind picked up, and the bite slowed. Capt Matt was determined to find fish for us. We would hop from spot to slot and sometimes pick up a fish - only Black Drum that were keepers though. Which was fine with me - they are better meat in my opinion. We were grinding it out - Capt Matt kept us moving once a spot was covered - and were only a couple Black Drum away from our limit and we had a couple Red in the box. We also had a blue cat and a flounder. We had caught several hard-heads, and a stingray, also. Then, I hooked something that was a completely different than the fish we had been catching. After a 5-10 minute fight, I had landed my first Bull Red at 28". Great fish! We were now only one Black Drum away from our limit and our time was nearly up - despite the fact that we started early, Capt Matt seemed like he was NOT going to take us in until we had at least that last Black Drum and we were to our stated stopping time. I left it to my son, the bite had really picked up as the tide had started in, despite the wind, and he landed the largest Black Drum of the day in short order. I told Capt Matt that I'd love to catch some Black Drum and he made note. He sent us home with four gallon size freezer bags stuffed full with fish fillets. And that was a "pretty slow day" according to Capt Matt. He was a superior guide, and probably the best I've fished with, and I've fished with over a dozen. He was determined we were going to find fish and have our chances to put some in the box. His boat is very nice and well configured. It wasn't a long run to get to the "spots" from the marina, and Capt Matt was a lot of fun! There is zero doubt that I will be back to do more fishing with Capt Matt and Bayou Obsession Charters. Thank you, Capt Matt, for a great trip and a memorable Father - Son outing!

Matt was amazing even before the trip started..our Captain for the Ryan was great as well..so knowledgeable and helpful. there were 3 of us and we caughy 50 sheephead on the all day trip! we had a blast. could not have asked for a better experience.

Captain Matt was so dedicated to our group having a good trip that when due to a fluke he was barbed by a venomous catfish he refused go back to the dock for treatment. we tried to insist but he refused. He pulled the inch long barb out grab a 1st aid kit treated the wound and kept going. If anyone thinks this is no big deal they have never had a poisonous barb in them. We had a great time thanks to Captain Matt. We are already looking forward to our next trip out.

Went with Captain Joel the first day & he did an excellent job of putting us on fish. He is a great entertainer! The second day, captain Ryan braved the weather forecast and we had 3 22” Reds in the boat in about 15 minutes. We limited out early but both Captains kept fishing. I highly recommend Bayou Obsessions!
