Half Day with Captain
4 Hour Inshore AM on April 12, 20234 adults
This is a tough one to objectively review for a couple of reasons. First off the weather in San Diego the week we were there was atypical, it rained and was gray and cold the entire week. Secondly we got passed around to two maybe three different captains with the last one Captain Jason being new to the boat. Thirdly the first mate called off the day of our charter so aforementioned captain new to the boat was working solo. All that being said it was a family charter, we didn't have gear for gray, damp, windy and 50 degrees, the captain was very accommodating and was able to get some beautiful rockfish in the boat. He struggled with the electronics so we spent a fair amount of time idle working to find the right spot. All that said Captain Jason was a great guy to talk to, got some fish in the boat and got us out and back to the dock safely by himself. I don't know that we received services in line with what we paid being a crew member down which also slowed the entire process with the captain having to find the fish, prep the gear and get us fishing, but it shouldn't reflect poorly on the Captain.

Hi Kraig. This is Larry the Charter owner. Fist, thank you for chartering with Todo O Nada, we truly appreciate it. It was really unfortunate with the weather the day you were with us. Anytime its blowing 15-20 knots it can get uncomfortable. I'm glad you were able to use some of our jackets and foul weather gear on the boat. I wanted to answer some of your other questions and concerns. First, we certainly didn't pass you off to three different captains. Unfortunately Captain Frank had a family emergency, so we did have a back up captain, captain Jason (Many Charters would of had to cancel on you with no backup). I also know you may of heard that the deckhand didn't show up which is true, however we normally would not have a deckhand for a 4 hour trip, that would of been a bonus that you wouldn't of been charged extra for. So I hope you don't feel like you were a crew member down. If he was there, you would of been a crew member up is a better way to look at it. I also know the gear was well prepped as all the rods were set up the night before by the same crew member. All captain Jason needed to do was add hooks and weights once at the fishing grounds which is very standard and not idle time. Captain Jason also mentioned that he had you on fish the very first drop which I hope would be acceptable in that kind of weather and conditions. That would also tell me that the time spent to find the right spot paid off. The last bit of information I'd like to include is that normally for a 4 hour trip, the Captain would take you to the in shore kelp beds in and around La Jolla or Point Loma. Because these areas had been extremely slow, he wanted you all to catch some meaningful fish and took you to the nine mile bank which would normally be at least a half day charter with the fuel burn (its nice to have these options with a faster boat). From the pictures, it looked like you all had a good time and minus the weather, it was a successful fishing trip. At Todo O Nada Charters, we take our trips seriously and want all of our guests to enjoy themselves and experience what San Diego Fishing has to offer. I hope this helps answer some of your questions about the trip you received as we never want to earn a poor review. All the best, Larry
